Volume 11, Part 3 of the Mayflower Families Through Five Generations series. The third and final volume records the descendants of Edward Doty through his sons Isaac and Joseph, and daughter Mary. The elder Edward came to New England as a servant of Stephen Hopkins, and he died in 1655. He was one of the signers of the Mayflower Compact in 1620. Doty was noted for his belligerence, and he fought the first and only duel in the Colony on 18 June 1621. He married Faith Clarke and had nine children.
The Mayflower Society publishes the majority of its books as a result of an ongoing program to identify the first five generations of Pilgrim descendants. This Five Generations Project involves the meticulous investigation of primary records that substantiate the identity of, often obscure, individuals and families. The time period these books cover is usually from about the time of the Mayflower landing, in 1620, through the era of the American Revolution.
