Gilbert Patten (October 25, 1866 – January 16, 1945) was a longtime summer resident of Camden. He had a house on the corner of Limerock and Bayview Street (the house still exists). Patten was an extremely successful writer of periodicals and "dime novels".The Merriwell books are reported to have sold 500,000,000 copies. Patten used several pen names, usually Burt L. Standish. The autobiography was unfinished until 19 years after his death when it was completed by Harriet Hinsdale and Tony London.
