CAHC 2006.8.1Description
Photograph of the Fay House, probably taken by Fay's nephew Frank Harris of Camden. It was one of the oldest properties in Camden until it burned in 1903. The house stood on upper Mountain Street near the entrance to the Mt. Battie road, and was owned by several generations of the Fay family, the last being Hervey Fay and his sisters. The farm was purchased partly of the 20 Associates, and part from General Knox by Jeremiah Farnham. Farnham later sold it to the Rev. Thomas Cochran, the 1st settled minister in Camden. After a long period of trouble with the townspeople, Rev. Cochran was dismissed in 1816 and sold the property to Silas Fay.
