Context

Circa 1974, 7-8 women began a feminists collective and retreat in upstate NY. They soon purchased land and started a commune, retreat center, and safe refuge for Lesbians. Closed in 1982 due to financial problems. The t-shirt donor spent a long weekend at A Woman's Place during her coming-out decision in 1981, and celebrated by purchasing the t-shirt before departing for home.
