Context

At the 1987 Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, this t-shirt was sold to commemorate those lost to AIDS. The Rhode Island Alliance for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights sent car loads of folks to DC for the march and lobby-days with RI's Congressional delegation. One particularly compelling event that weekend was the inaugural unfolding, on the National Mall, of 1,920 panels of the NAMES Project AIDS memorial quilt. The t-shirt donor and her spouse had lost several friends to AIDS and participated in making one of the memorial quilts.
