"Communiques" was the newsletter of the Lesbian Avengers, a direct action group committed to advancing Lesbian visibility and ensuring Lesbian survival. It was founded in 1992 in New York City by half a dozen Lesbian activists: Ana Simo, Sara Schulman, Maxine Wolfe, Anne-chrisitne d'Adesky, Marie Honan and Anne Maguire. Particularly media-savvy, the group engaged in high impact street activism designed to propel Lesbians and their concerns into the public discourse. It also spawned both the Dyke March and Dyke TV, both in 1993. It disbanded in 1997.Publication Details
