Tarot Cards - round, black and white drawings with bookContext
Goddess and female archetypes from cultures, religions and traditions throughtout the world appear in the Daughters of the Moon Tarot. The deck envisions a women's community which reflects diversity, compassion and wisdom. The 5" round cards reflect a wholistic approach- envisioning cycles of energies in the cards, unlike the dualities and oppositions of traditional tarot.
Researcher notes: Daughters of the Moon Tarot is a deck originally created by Ffiona Morgan and Shekhinah Mountainwater with illustrations by Kate Taylor and Lily Hillwomyn. It was created in 1976 to address the “growing consciousness of womyn, race, class, and, above all, goddess or women-identified spirituality” (Introduction to Daughters of the Moon, 7). Since rectangular tarot cards have dual or opposite meanings based on their position as upright or reversed, the Daughters of the Moon creators opted for a rounded deck to avoid this binary thinking and encourage a more holistic perspective among readers. The deck also replaced the court cards, King, Queen, Knight and Page, with the three goddess archetypes, Maiden, Mother and Crone, to prevent hierarchical and oppressive relationships between the cards. -- Maya Joncas, 2026Made/Created
