Context

"Deneuve" ("the Curve") was founded by Frances "Franco" Stevens in San Francisco in 1990. While working at "A Different Light Bookstore," she noticed that bookstores and newsstands had few lesbian publications to offer, so she decided to do something about it. Published Bi-Monthly. The magazine was rebranded as "Curve" in 1996 after a trademark dispute with French actress Catherine Deneuve.
