Feminist Bookstore News (FBN) was a trade publication for feminist bookstores. It served as a collectively produced newsletter featuring submissions from feminist booksellers, presses, & writers across the country. There was information on books from small presses and from other countries; lists of books on specific subjects such as "Third World" Women, young women, science fiction, children's books, etc.; news from particular women's bookstores; information about author appearances; reflections on the business of women's bookselling, including discussion of issues having to do with publishers & distributors & also matters such as censorship & chains; & special issues devoted to such subjects as offerings from university presses & business "sidelines" booksellers could employ to survive financially. Feminist Bookstore News was founded by Carol Seajay after the First National Women in Print Conference, intended to help the community that had attended stay in touch with each other. It envisioned itself as a tool for building women's community through the support and promotion of women's bookstores and books and feminist media more broadly. FBN also consistently featured content relevant to gay male readers and booksellers. It was active from 1976 until 2000, and issues were published sometimes bimonthly and sometimes quarterly. After ceasing print publication, Seajay reinvented the newsletter as a digital publication, "Books To Watch Out For," of which there were three versions of each issue, one specifically for Lesbians, one for Gay men, & one for feminists more generally. Each issue was also published in three formats: HTML: AOL e-mail; & printed copies of PDF's mailed out to those without access to computers.Collection
