GIRLJOCK was a cartoon and satire magazine that accepted letters, "cartoonological meanderings," articles, goofy photos, true confessional, sports, and romance stories. It covered the lifestyle of sporting lesbians "and their admirers" in a tongue-in-cheek manner. HOLDINGS: Late Summer 1991; Issue #5, Freezin' Season 1991; Flowers-Showers 1992; Endless Summer 1992.

Context

The first Lesbian sports magazine, GIRLJOCK covered the lives and experiences of Lesbian sportswomen. Run by editrix Roxxie, GIRLJOCK was envisioned as a forum for Lesbian sporting experience.The reality of the Lesbian experience often differed from what mainstream sports coverage was willing to report, and GIRLJOCK highlighted intimate, funny, and erotic elements of Lesbian sporting lives. In the words of the editrix: "Good-bye to all that mainstream mush."
