Context

"Tender Buttons" was published in reaction to the Yale publication "Aurora" - a feminist magazine, but not a Lesbian one. As the editorial in this issue states, "My hope is that Tender Buttons will help our community at Yale and in New Haven combat imposed heterosexuality by asserting the specificity of our sexuality, and the right to our desire."
