Researcher notes: Thea’s Tarot was created by artist Ruth West in 1984 on the heels of other feminist and Lesbian tarot decks. The black and white deck papercut deck was inspired by Billie Potts’s A New Women’s Tarot Deck and its focus on matriarchal symbolism. Similar to other feminist decks of the time, West rejected the typical court cards and replaced them with the titles Mother, Daughter, Amazon and Child. -- Maya Joncas, 2026Category
