Context

The Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp was a long-running protest movement in Berkshire, England, started in September 1981 to oppose the storage of American nuclear cruise missiles at RAF (Royal Air Force base) Greenham Common. Run entirely by women, the camp lasted for 19 years until it closed in September 2000.
