Venus of Willendorf Pride Parade Costume

Name/Title

Venus of Willendorf Pride Parade Costume

Description

Created as part of a costume for the Amazon Bookstore float in the Pride Parade in Minneapolis, MN in the late 1980s. It was a cardboard sandwich board that had the image on the front and the back and hung on the wearer like a shield. (The logo of Venus of Willendorf with a book is from Mev Miller's book marketing.)

Context

Cardboard was spray painted silver, edges on the sides were created with black duct tape, the Venus of Willendorf image was glued on, and there were two holes punched at the top, which enabled a rope to attach to both pieces and go over the shoulders of the wearer.
