Description

Gilmore Cheese Box. Material: wood, metal. Size: 14 7/8" diameter x 9" H. Description: wooden box (a) top and (b) bottom - stamped on box top: "Gilmore" - thin wooden panels formed into a rounded box and box top - nails hold upper and lower wooden rims in place.

Context

Used for storing and shipping cheese up until about 1928. Originated in Freeborn County at the Gilmore Co. Store operated over the years by at least three generations of the Gilmore family.
