Context

The Doodlebug was first manufactured in 1906 by the Budd Company. It was a self-propelled combination passenger and light freight car. Some carried US Postal Service mail sorting areas. Some were diesel electric, and others were gasoline electric. First the Minneapolis and St. Louis, and after 1960, the Chicago Northwestern serviced Waseca with the Doodlebug. Older residents remember it on the north-south track through Waseca which is now called "Doodlebug Trail". Our local route was from Albert Lea and downtown Minneapolis. This model was created by Waseca resident, Maynard Buland. It won an award and was featured in a National model railroad magazine.
