Scope and Content

Material: paper. (a) Size: 4 1/2" x 5 1/2". A pencil sketch of a woman with an elegant, vintage style featuring a bow atop her head, wavy hair, and an expressionless face. Her attire includes a high-collared garment with a bow tie, capturing a timeless aesthetic reminiscent of early 20th-century fashion. The sketch is simplistic yet detailed, emphasizing her facial features and the texture of her coiffure. (b) An antique-looking card featuring a small illustration of a woman's profile within an oval frame, accompanied by a hand-drawn pink flower beside her portrait; to the right of the illustration, elegant cursive handwriting spells out the name "Miss Castor"; reverse side has handwritten text in black ink, which reads "1st Mrs. Ed Everett's last party" in a cursive script.

Context

The "first" Mrs. Edward Everett was killed in a train accident in New Mexico in 1909 at the age of 41. Miss Florence Castor probably made this drawing of her friend, Nettie Everett and included it with her mementos along with the place card at what was to be Mrs. Everett's last party.
