Description

Ethel Johnson Buland's wedding gown from 1916. Material: textile. Size: 33" W. at hemline x 50" L. Description: white cotton voile and silk wedding gown. The neckline forms a "V" and fastens with hooks down the front, which is covered by tiny crocheted, decorative buttons. A lace collar is attached to the neckline and has long tails that thread through two hand embroidered slots on each side, and fall over the full, puffed below elbow length sleeves. The sleeves have wide lace frills at the hem. The skirt has a wide hem of silk. a long tier of cotton voile starts at the hips and finishes with eyelet embroidery just above the silk hem. The blouson bodice is attached by a narrow band at the waist to the lightly gathered skirt. b. Wedding Gown Sash. Material: textile. Size: 7 1/4" W. x 32 1/2" L. Description: silk, satin and cotton. The silk sash is lined with white cotton and trimmed at each end with a 3 1/2" rosette. The color, a natural, off white, is not the same bright white of the gown, including the silk at the hem. Because of this, it is questionable that it actually belongs with this gown. Heavily shattered.
