Wedding ensemble worn and sewn by Julia Halvorsen (or Halvorson) Hanson. Lightweight wool and silk velvet two-piece dress. Material: textile, metal. (a) Waist Size: 13" flat. 21 1/2" L. Description: teal/kingfisher blue wool with silk velvet trim of same color. Velvet trim: open front stand-up collar and draped lapels shirred to base of collar, and small sleeve caps at each shoulder. Long fitted sleeves are also cuffed in velvet. Bodice has three rows of steel cut, faceted metal buttons. Front closure consists of ten sets of hooks and eyes. Back is detailed with two velvet tabs and released seams to form four more self tabs down center back. (b) Skirt. Size: 15" flat at waist x 43" L. Description: Skirt of same fabrics. Wide velvet hem of the underskirt is topped by an overskirt in two pieces: the apron, which is bias cut to form draping across the front of the skirt, and the back bustle, with soft pleats on either side and which is finished at the bottom with soft draping. The skirt requires a full cage or underskirt in order to create the fluid draping across the front. (c) Draped/pleated soft hat. Size: 7" W. X 9" H. x 17" L. Description: teal/kingfisher blue velvet matching the garment; wire frame around edges to hold shape.

Ludwig Hanson and Julia Halvorsen (Halvorson) were married March 11, 1888, Lebanon, WI. Dress was hand sewn by Julia Halvorsen for her marriage to Ludwig Hanson in Lebanon, Wisconsin on March 11, 1888. They were married by Reverend Williamson and witnesses were Andrew Hanson, E.S. Nelson & Mrs. Nelson. Ludwig M. Hanson was born in 1863 and died in 1940 and is buried in Otisco. Julia was born in 1861 and died in 1944 and is buried in Otisco.
