Material: metal. Size: 2 3/4" W. x 4" L. x 1" H. Description: brown enameled metal - pull ring on one side will unseal container - raised lettering on top: "First Aid Packet - U.S. Army, Contract Nov. 2, 1916 Bauer & Black, Chicago, U.S.A. To Open-Pull Ring, Patent Applied For".

Context

Belonged to Charles H. Nelson, donor's father. He enlisted in the army but only got as far as New York City & peace was declared. He was born in 1890 & would have been 17 or 18 years old when he enlisted.
