Prechel Sawmill. 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" black and white photograph of the Prechel saw rig in action; shows five men working with a large saw blade processing, cutting lumber; circa 1019; identified L-R: Fred Miller, Emil Prechel, John Priebe, Ruben Prechel, and Bill Grunwald "making wood" for cooking and heating. The caption further read, "The saw was turned by a tumbling rod from a horse power off to the right (of the photograph). The logs were rolled into place with cant hooks and pushed ahead on the rollers as chunks were sawed off. Apparently Fred Miller removed the square chunks. Emil Prechel raised and lowered the saw while John Priebe and Bill Grunwald fed the saw. Perhaps Ruben Prechel managed the horse power." See artifact at accession number 1.91.331.Photograph Details
