Strunk Stagecoach Barn Controlled Burn. Material: paper. Size: 4 3/8" x3 1/2". Description: color photograph of a stagecoach barn on the Strunk property when the Waldorf Fire Department did a controlled burn. 28188 70th Street, Wilton Township. Section 20, SW 1/4.Context
Lynn Strunk quote from Judy Joecks book Stagecoaches across Waseca County and Neighboring Counties. "Our place had a very old barn, and in approximately 1986, Bruce and I decided it should be taken down. The Waldorf Fire Department came out and did a controlled burn. When people saw the smoke, they drove over to see where the first was, and they told use we were burning a "historical site." This was the first we knew about our place being a former stagecoach stop. The old part of the house (NW corner) sits on big rocks. I learned that, since it was a steep climb to the house from the road, the driveway was put in to the left so the stage could make it up the hill. The house had been added on to before we bought it in 1984." Quote from Waldorf Fire Department Chief, Shane McDonough "I was there, and 1986 sounds about right because we got our new pumper truck in 1990. We used the old truck that day. It got so hot it brought the frost out and melted the tail lights on our old pumper. We heard all the stagecoach stories that day from Lester Kroeger and Jerry Stencel."Lexicon
