Description

Dewald-Kanne Round Barn. 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" color photograph of the round barn that once existed in Iosco Township; this view shows the fieldstone foundation, and a closer side view; the ventilating cupola is attached at the very peak of the cone-shaped roof.

Context

This round barn was built by Frank Dewald in Iosco Township, section 3; later owned by Henry F. Kanne. The barn no longer stands. The round barn was an experiment in efficiency, the thinking was that the farmer could feed his cows from the center rather than hauling feed and water up and down a long aisle.
