Herter's Gunpowder Scale. Material: metal, glass, plastic, paper. Scale. Size: 2" x11" x 4" H. Description: black cast iron metal body stamped "Herters Inc. Since 1893, Waseca, Minn. Pat. Pend."; vertical projections at each end to hold the beam; leveling tube in center front. (a) Beam. Size: 3/8" x 9" with 1" projection. Description: chrome plated horizontal metal beam with graduated markings to measure grains up to a 325 capacity. (b) Powder cup. Size: 2 1/2" diameter x 1/2" with a 1/2" extended lip handle. Description: aluminum cup with flat rim and short extended handle. (c) Cup holder. Size: 2 1/2" diameter x 1" H. Description: aluminum wire circle with upward extension ending in a small hook.Context
This scale was part of a collection of hunting items collected by Alvin Olson who lived in Waseca with his wife Eleanora Olson for about 20 years. He was born at Willow Creek between Mapleton and Amboy. Eleanora Olson was born and raised in Mankato and had family on the Roemhildt side near Elysian and Janesville.Lexicon
