Description

Sword and Scabbard. Material: metal, leather. (a) Scabbard. Size: 32 1/2" L. Description: metal scabbard - near top is a carved out figure of a man carrying a pillar - "FCB" logo above man - middle contains a carved out design - the bottom has a carved out design. (b) Sword. Size: 37 3/4" L. Description: knight's head on the pommel of sword - metal chain connected to top of knight's helmet and connects to top of bird head at bottom of handle - "UR" on one side of handle - "FCB" on other side of handle - black leather and gold metal wrapped around handle - silver metal blade - on blade: "The Pettibone Mfg. Co. Cincinnati. O." - further on blade: "FCB Knights of Pythias" - "Geo R. Goodspeed" etched on blade - etched decorative patterns on other side of blade.

Context

Some society or regalia swords are marked with UR which stands for Uniform Ranks. Most of these swords have a knight's head on the pommel of the sword and the original owner's name etched in the blade.
