Dark green lightweight brushed wool suit with chiffon silk blouse. Material: textile, metal, plastic. (a) Skirt. Size: 13.5" at waistline x 35" L. Ankle length, gathered in the back into waist. Four 3/4" vertical tucks extend from waistline to hemline on either side of front and back. (b) Belt for skirt. Size: 2" W. x 30" L. Self fabric, tapers to a point on one end and has two black snaps for closure; inner end of belt is cut square and has one black snap. [c] Coat. Size: 18" shoulder to shoulder and 38" long. Full at bust and waist to be pulled in with wide belt. Lined with light grey silk print with a geometric pattern; long sleeves with roll back cuffs exposing the patterned silk and trimmed with a horizontal row of three dark green buttons. Black fur collar (beaver) with buttons on each end. Two long green sashes buttoned to each side at waistline can be crossed over and fastened at front with a large buckle made of plastic (Buckle has become unattached from belt). Large green patch pockets are sewn on each side of front at hipline and trimmed with a fold over flap and two large buttons. Three button closure at left neckline; snaps at waistline. Label inside back neckline: "George E. Brett, Inc., Mankato, Minn." (d) Blouse. Size: 16" W. shoulder to shoulder x 15" L. Ecru silk chiffon long-sleeved blouse with lace inserts on sleeves and center front extending up to front collar. Embroidered and beaded geometric pattern on front and back.Context
Likely belonged to the donor's mother, Auguste Emilie Sievert, who was born in Alton Township in 1891 and married Frank Paul Dumdei in Janesville in 1917. Due to the era of the garments (c.1914-1919), the ensemble could have been her wedding suit.Cataloged By
