Photograph: Black and white. MW Robert L. Sebastian (1915-1916) Posing with other Grand Lodge Officers. Photo taken by M.D. Boland, Tacoma
Caption associated with it reads: "Born in Virginia at the beginning of the Civil War, Sebastian came to Tatoosh Island in 1883 in the U.S. Signal Corps. He subsequently taught school in Seattle, Centralia, and Black Diamond. He was raised in Centralia Lodge No. 63 but affiliated with Aberdeen Lodge No. 52 of which he was Master in 1912. Seven new Lodges were chartered in 1916 and Grand Master Sebastian reported to Grand Lodge Masonry was unaffected by the gathering clouds of war. Nevertheless, by the following year, only he and Grand Secretary Horace W. Tyler gathered for the next Annual Communication. Everyone else in this picture had been scattered by the War to End All Wars."
