Context

The origins of the Hackney go back to the trotting horse that has Arabian or thoroughbred blood. They are a compact strong horse. The word Hackney may be derived from the french word ‘Haquenee’ meaning horse for hire, hence this horse has been and is used for pulling light vehicles. Welsh cobs and Welsh mountain ponies have the same physique, with strong and legs but be agile and quick. They may have the same high stepping gait. The hoof weights may hae been used in the past to encourage higher stepping. Not popular and even banned in some countries nowadays.
