Context

Born in 1856 in East Grinstead, Sussex, UK, Harry Hall started tailoring in the 1870s and by the 1890s he had founded Harry Hall Esq., Bootmaker and Tailor. He started with a small collection of bespoke suits and dress suits. The important aspect of his success was his advertising. He coined the phrase "Hall marked clothes are best" and had it printed on brass letter openers, barometers and button hooks which he gave away quite freely around the country. The original site was bombed out in World War II and the firm moved to Cheapside. As horses became an animal of pleasure and leisure, Harry Hall Esq. began to focus on tailored equestrian clothing, and even made saddles for sometime in the 60s. Now in the 21st century, the firm still makes bespoke riding outfits and although safety is of over arching importance, the original values are embedded in their production - "Hall" marked clothes are the best.
