Description

Small link chain pad with leather back, also know as a "Chain burnisher".

Context

Burnishing metals creates both a hard and smooth surface. Polishing which usually takes place before burnishing only smooths. They were made and sold by saddlery wholesalers and manufacturers, for example William Overton of Walsall. (Thanks to Bob Powell, Working Horse and Farming Historian).
