Description

Bentwood Measures - Wooden measuring pots

Context

Bentwood measures are antique containers, often made of beech wood, that were used to measure and hold dry goods like grains, seeds, and flours. The term refers to the construction method, where strips of wood were steamed and bent to form a cylindrical shape, with a one-piece bottom and often reinforced with iron banding. These measures are also called "treen" and were essential in homes and businesses before modern scales were common.
