Description

Wooden slat bucket with hand crank iron mechanism for churning ice cream.

Context

Before electricity ice-cream had to be made by hand. The first hand crank machine was made c 1840. This example is made by Husqvarna in Sweden, model 'Reliance Ice Cream Freezer'. The method was to pack ice around the inside of the bucket and put the mixture goes into the metal container in the centre. The 'cranking' continually rotates the central container containing the mixture.
