Description

Metal gun with exploding mechanism and with screw and chain to attach it to something firm. The explosive was pushed into the chamber on the right and the trip set off by wires attached to the three wings on the left.

Context

Stamped Cosbourne Inventor. Charles Osbourne started trading under his own name in LIchfield Street, Birmingham in 1845. By 1855 he had moved to Whittal Street where he remained until 1928. He manufactured a wide range of guns ranging from 10 bore to 16 bore, pistols to bayonets and including alarm guns for plantations, gardens and rickyards. His guns were displayed at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
