Locking metal box with a wooden handle.

Context

Used at Chinnor, Cement Works between 1913 - 1980 (Oxfordshire, UK). The exploder is made by the Austrian company Schaffler. The connecting terminals would have been attached to the two connectors on the lefthand side of the handle. Conrad Schaffler founded his company in 1902 and by 1908 was making blasting machines. In 1911 a patent for electric ignition fuses was obtained and the underlying principle is the same today. The company is now called Asotec Pyrotechnic Solutions.
