Description

‘Magic’ Marmalade Cutter

Context

This device, a 'Magic' marmalade cutter, was designed to speed up the process of making marmalade. The cutter would quickly slice the rind of citrus fruits, typically Seville oranges. The design of marmalade cutters like this was first patented in the early 20th century. By the 1930s the 'Magic' marmalade cutter was produced by Follows & Bate, Ltd., a Manchester-based manufacturer of domestic and horticultural machinery.
