Description

Bolt Gun, also known as Captive Bolt Gun, Cattle gun, Stunner. Gun for .38 bullet

Context

The practice of stunning animals before killing has existed for decades, perhaps even back as far as the 11th century. However there is little evidence until the 1800s when an increased concern for animal suffering grew. By the early 1900s Penetrating and Non Penetrating Captive Bolts had been invented which rendered the animal senseless immediately. Today there are laws and standards that are required to ensure high standards of euthanasia for farm animals.
