Context

The Old Fulham Pottery was established in 1671 (as it says on the label) and continued trading until 1969. John Dwight studied Oxford in 1650s under Boyle. He established the stoneware factory at Fulham between 1671-3 but by 1672 he had obtained the first of his patents for manufacturing porcelain. Dwight is regarded as one of the UK's foremost potters. He not only experimented with porcelain but also was one of the first to successfully produce stoneware. (An archeological dig was conducted In 1971 on the site where of his factory was in Fulham). The business continued until 1969. The Adaptable Hot Water bottle was probably developed in the 1920's, definitely available to order in 1921 and the company listed as having a stand at the British Industries Fair in 1929.
