Context

The Pyrene Company Ltd was established in 1914 and ran till 1971 when they became Chubb Security. They experimented and developed fire fighting chemicals and by the 1930s many ships were fitted with their systems - including the Queen Mary in 1933. They offered protection for the public in RAF tattoos. In the WW2 they expanded rapidly for protection in ordnance factories, industry and power stations. In due course new systems using CO2, foam and dry powder were developed. In 1976 they included underwater systems for safety in submarines.
