Description

Vertical metal slot machine, with slot for a penny (pre 1971 coin) and a handle to pull out a small drawer, to retrieve the cigarettes.

Context

Wild Woodbines was a brand of cigarettes that was first produced in the late 19th century by the British tobacco company WD & HO Wills, which had factories in Bristol and London. The brand became popular in the early 20th century, particularly among working-class people in the UK. Wild Woodbines had cigarette cards in each packet to collect - for example Army Uniforms (1909), Association Football, Household Hints (c1914-18), Butterflies, Flowers, Trees, Film Stars - an infinite number of subjects.
