Description

Galvanised iron circular cover, with a recess for water round the outside bottom. The cooler also has a handle with mesh ventilation underneath it on the topside of the cooler.

Context

Before electric refrigeration various practices were used to keep products cool. The instructions on this Portable refrigerator say "Pour water on the top until the outside if filled: it will keep the butter cool and hard in the hottest weather."
