Name/Title

Crochet Lace

Description

White cotton collar of crochet lace.

Context

Although there is no date of when crochet lace was first produced, it is known to be produced commercially in Ireland in the 1700s. Crochet lace was considered inferior to bobbin lace, needle lace or netting, as it was easier to make. However it can be made with very fine cotton and the varying size holes, scallops and flowing lines give it a 'lacy' look.
