Description

Length of Torchon lace

Context

Torchon means "cloth, duster or tea towel" in French. Another name for Torchon lace is Beggar's lace, so it seems it was not very highly regarded. It is not a traditional English lace, but must used nowadays as it is good for beginners to tackle. It is a continuous thread lace Torchon lace has simpler patterns on a geometrical background. The patterns may include what are known as 'spiders, fans, palmettes, occasionally tallies and gimp thread". The pattern on this length is a 'scallop'.
