Description

Wooden box containing metal plate with holes and a wooden board with holes for measuring 'cachets' (flutes). the box also has a bottom space for storing rice paper and the damper and cachet holder. On the metal plate the word Pinot is inscribed on one side and 88 on the other.

Context

Made by Cooper & Sons of Gloucester Rd. South Kensington, London. The instructions are 1. Place the cachets in the holes of the wooden tray 2. Pour the powder directly into the cachet by means of the metal cup 3. By the aid of the cachet holder grasp the cachet which is to serve as a lid, gently moisten it upon the damper, and close feeble pressure. 4. Detach the finished cachet (using the forefinger as the ejector) and leave to dry two or three minutes in order that the edges may preserved intact. N.B. The most delicate operation is that of moistening the cachet. To ensure its perfect manipulation two circular discs of felt are employed the lower one spongy which serves as a damper, the upper very smooth. Upon this latter the cachet lid is gently pressed, so it is thus slightly uniformly moistened.
