Tennant Brothers Sheffield Beer barrel brass collar

Context

Tennant Brothers Ltd, Exchange Brewery, Bridge Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire The first Exchange Brewery was established in 1820 on the site of what is now Market Place, trading as Proctor & Co. Acquired by Edward and Robert Tennant in 1840, and they were joined by Thomas More in 1843. A new brewery at Lady's Bridge was built by 1853. The company was registered on 1st July 1882. Acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd in 1961 with 700 tied houses to become Whitbread East Pennines. Whitbreads closed the brewery in 1993. Buildings remain, mostly converted to offices
