Context

The brewery began as the Swan Brewery (originally Swan's Nest Brewery) in Paradise Gardens, Oxford, in 1646. Acquisition by William Hall: In 1795, William Hall acquired the Swan Brewery, which then became known as Hall's Oxford Brewery. Growth and Acquisitions: Hall's Oxford Brewery grew, acquiring other local breweries, including those in Wallingford and Bicester. Company Formation: The company was registered as a limited company in December 1896 to take over the business of Messrs. Hall and Co. Concentration of Brewing: By April 1899, all brewing was concentrated at the City Brewery. Acquisition by Allsopp & Sons: In 1926, Hall's Oxford Brewery, with 300 tied houses, was acquired by Allsopp & Sons Ltd, after which brewing ceased in Oxford.
