A straight sided metal measure for half a gallon. A metal ban around the rim and the base for added strength. An Indenture number on the rim.Context
The Indenture No. on the rim of this measure distinctly has the crown (the symbol of authority of the Inspector) with V on the left and R on the right, indicating that this was in the reign of Queen Victoria. The nos 346 are marked linking the half gallon measure to Dorset. The numbers enable the measure to be placed no earlier than 1879.
