Long before the Ford Model T, even before the first Mercedes ‘horseless carriage’, there was Lucas. Joseph Lucas business established his business just 3 years after the petrol engine was first patented. This bicycle lamp is the Calcia Cadet model produced by Joseph Lucas Ltd in Birmingham, England. Joseph Lucas began manufacturing lamps around 1870. He took his son Harry into business with him and in 1882 began operating as Joseph Lucas and Son. In 1897 Harry left the business which then became known as Joseph Lucas Limited. The company produced lighting equipment especially bicycle and carriage lamps. After 125 years the company still exists today as a supplier of premium quality, technically excellent automotive and motorbike parts.
