Shoemakers tool - Channel groover

Entry/Object ID

Description

Wooden handled instrument attached to a metal rod with a curved blunt end.

Context

The channel is made on the bottom of the shoe sole. To better protect the seam and keep the underside of the sole clean, you can also slit the side of the sole, fold it up and then groove the channel. After the stitching is done, the sole is folded back down and glued. In this way the seam is not visible at all.
