Wooden handle with extended metal shank attached to a rasp. A brass collar holds the shank to the handle.Context
Boot and shoe pegs are small wooden pins either round or diamonds shaped of approximately 1.2 cm long and 0.3cm thick. There were used in-the 17th century to build up the heels and then in the early 19th century were used as an alternative to sewing or riveting the upper to the sole. The peg was driven by a smart blow from a hammer into the hole previously made by the awl.
