Description

Small hand torch with removable base to insert batteries and removable top to replace bulb. The on /off switch slides and has a corrugated slider.

Context

The torch cost 6d (old money) and was made by PIFCO. The company was tarted in 1900 by Joseph Webber in Manchester. The specialised in lighting appliances and accessories - from gas lamps, to paraffin, to oil and then bicycle, hand torches and even fairy lights. Over the years the company was acquired by various people and in in 2001 was bought by Salton an American company making domestic applicances
